Title:A Qualitative Scoping Review of the Relationship Between female Child Labourers and Foundational Skills, particularly Reading in developing countries.
This qualitative scoping review synthesizes existing research exploring how child labour influences children (girls) acquisition of foundational skills—reading—across low- and middle-income countries. By focusing on qualitative studies, the review map's key themes and narratives, including barriers to learning, the role of household and community expectations, and children’s own perceptions of their dual roles as workers and learners. The findings reveal that child labour, especially hazardous and time-consuming work, profoundly affects children’s educational engagement and self-efficacy, underscoring the need for holistic interventions.
