Title:An Intersectional Guide for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Their Allies: Masculinity Reconnected
This talk introduces the book An Intersectional Guide for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Their Allies: Masculinity Reconnected (Routledge, 2025). The book explores how sexual abuse affects men across different developmental stages and how experiences of harm and recovery are shaped by masculinity, sexuality, and intersectionality.
The presentation outlines the structure of the book and how its chapters reflect men's experiences as survivors. A focus will be given to the chapter Sex, Gender and Nurturing Our Authentic Sexual Self exploring how sexual abuse can disrupt sexual development, desire, pleasure, consent, and relationships, and how survivors may struggle with shame, confusion, or conflicting sexual feelings and behaviours.
The talk argues for the importance of trauma-informed and intersectional approaches when working with male survivors.
