Positive Masculinity, United States
Title: “Masculinity and Sustainability — Reimagining Strength for a Resilient Future” & “How Gender Awareness Creates Safer Communities”
Traditional models of masculinity have long been tied to domination, control, and competition—values that mirror the extractive mindset contributing to ecological and social crises. Yet within masculine identities lie powerful tools for transformation. This presentation explores how redefined, positive masculinity—anchored in stewardship, emotional intelligence, and interdependence can become a driving force for sustainability. Drawing from my book Positive Masculinity Now and over 50 years of martial arts and community leadership experience, I examine how embodied practices can help cultivate grounded awareness, self-regulation, and ethical decision-making. These skills are essential to sustainable leadership in environmental, social, and organizational systems.
Through case studies and interactive examples, attendees will learn how masculine-identified individuals can harness values such as discipline, protection, and honor—not for dominance, but for collective well-being. This framework invites men and masculine-identified people to engage as allies and innovators in sustainability movements, shifting from extraction to contribution.
By merging gender studies, environmental ethics, and embodied education, this talk demonstrates how transforming masculine norms can support the cultural evolution necessary for a just and sustainable future.
