Intersectionality is a theoretical framework that was first coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989. It examines how various forms of social stratification, such as race, gender, class, and other individual characteristics, intersect and interact to shape individuals' experiences and social identities. This approach acknowledges that people are often disadvantaged by multiple sources of oppression: their race, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and other identity markers.
